I’ve Got a Habit for The Habit!

fullsizerender-1

Welcome to week two of Jack’s Recipes and Reviews. This week, I took a trip on down to The Habit, a California-born classic. They’re known for their classic tagline “There’s No Substitute for Quality” and boy was I going to put that to the test. Is the Habit all it’s chalked up to be?

Upon arrival at their location in Milpas, there was something that already stuck out to me. The parking lot. This was going to be a challenge that i’d have to be overcome. It was crammed, tight and one wrong move and you’d find yourself in need of a paint job. With some luck, we were able to squeeze in and shuffled inside. The customer service was nothing special. It was the classic walk up and order. Nonetheless, the lady who took care of us was still quite friendly and was willing to put up with my indecisiveness when it came to ordering food. Ultimately, I settled with the good ol’ Double Bacon Charburger, with a Mocha Shake and fries. This was set to be a very good meal, and I was excited. My family ordered their respective meals, and we plopped on down and began waiting. For a fast food place, they sure were fast. We only had to sit for about 5 minutes, and we were greeted with a warm, freshly made meal. Now, the race began. The race to get home before it all goes cold!

To start off this tasting session, I opted to have the shake first. Who saves dessert for last, anyway? The shake was the perfect balance of creamy and flavorful. The whip cream wasn’t much to brag about, however it did add a slight boost to the quality of the overall shake. I’m an avid coffee drinker, so i’m picky when it comes to coffee and anything coffee flavored. This shake passed by my standards, that’s for sure!

Next, I pulled out the real course- The burger and the fries. Per the unspoken expectations and standards of burger tasting, I alternated between a bite of the burger and eating a few fries, in order to see how well the flavors mixed. It is crucial that the fries compliment the burger. The fries were not too salty, and were not burnt either. They were “crisped” if I had to give a word to describe it. The burger itself was quite flavorful, as well. If i’m not mistaken, they use Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce, and let me tell you, that’s a smart choice. The sauce and the bacon mixed to create a hearty, filling combination that left me stuffed.

Now, lets put a rating to this restaurant! For all new readers, I rate it on Aesthetics, Price and Flavor, and then average it out to give an accurate and fair score. Before I go into this rating, I want to note that my mother didn’t get the meal she ordered, meaning i’ll be docking a point from Price, as we paid for something we did not receive. Not the end of the world, but it should be recognized none the less.

Aesthetics: 9/10 (I mean, look how good that burger looks!)

Flavor: 8/10

Price: 6.5/10

Overall: 8/10

All said and done, i’d say it’s worth taking a ride down to The Habit. It’s good for the casual eater- Someone who is looking to get a quick bite to eat and at the same time get something that tastes good. My personal recommendation would be going to the Milpas location, however with 182 locations, i’m sure you’ll be able to find the place that works for you. They even have one in Dubai!

So, what do you want to see next? Do you want a recipe, or another review? And if you want another review, what place? Please leave your thoughts in the comments, as i’d love to hear them!

Till next week,

– Jack
